		<description><![CDATA[Josh travelled to Snodland last weekend to compete in the Kent Individual Rapidplay Chess Championship, an adult tournament.  He scored 2/6 and was placed 44/55.  He won £15 for being the U120 joint winner and was also the U10 winner.  Well done Josh.]]></description>

		<title>Copthorne boys excel at National Chess Competition</title>
		<description><![CDATA[Four members of the Copthorne Chess Team travelled to Wellington College last Saturday to compete in the UK Chess Challenge which started back in January across the country with 68,000 children entering nationwide. 41 boys from Sussex schools aged between 7 and 10 qualified for the Southern Gigafinal, becoming part of the last 2,500 players left in the competition nationwide &#8211; a fantastic achievement. 		<title>Year 3 and 4 Trip to Fishers Farm</title>
		<description><![CDATA[Friday 18 June saw all of Year 3 and 4 climbing aboard a bus to go out for the day to Fishers Farm. We were blessed with a heavenly day and with sunscreen applied we set off to Wisborough Green. On arrival the children split into teams of 4 from across the year groups and began to plan their day. Laden with maps and timetables much discussion took place! A quick tour of the facilites and then they were off! 		<title>Arts Day for Year 3 and 4</title>
		<description><![CDATA[We all made out own individual scrap books in the morning and started to fill them with different sketches. Some drew parts of school whereas others looked at the natural environment. Year 3 had a great day which culminated in them cave painting outside &#8211; Mrs Wade was spying her new class outside the window! Year 4 ended the day making Native American Totems from felt. Using fabric glue for the first time in the class room meant we had to have all the windows open but the finished results were beautiful &#8211; we hope you agree. 		<title>Pond Dipping in Year 4</title>
		<description><![CDATA[Year 4 spent a fantastic morning pond dipping at Bio Blades. We were so fortunate to have this wonderful opportunity to search for all sorts of amazing creatures in a huge selection of ponds. We found newts, diving beetles, water boatman, pond skaters and snails to name but a few. At one time the rain came down in torrents but noone seemed to notice as they continued their quest! We had two games and then we had a break until it was time to stop. We had two minutes on each activity. I was the fastest skipper. My pair did LOTS of catching and throwing. 		<description><![CDATA[Today we travelled to Hurst for the Under 8&#8242;s 2nd game of the season. The boys were very excited to be playing in a match. Hurst won the toss and put us in to bat. 		<description><![CDATA[At Blackland&#8217;s farm we did all sorts of activities; rock climbing, Archery, Abseiling, Kayaking, Crate Challenge, team building and many more. The best part was the tunnels where we had to crawl into dark tunnels and we had to find our way out. I learnt I was good at archery and that it was hard to do anything without communicating as on one activity we had to get into height order without speaking- it was really hard! 		<title>Copthorne Chess excel in the Primary Cup</title>
		<description><![CDATA[The Copthorne Chess Team travelled to St. Lawrence School, Hurstpierpoint last week to compete in the U11 Sussex Inter-Schools Competition.  2010 saw the largest entry of U11 teams (Year 6 and below) who compete in teams of 4 players for the Primary Cup. This tournament has always proved very successful and this year was no exception with 46 teams from 32 schools entering the event. To reach the final teams had to play in an initial round against local schools in the Autumn term, followed by a divisional round in the Spring term.  Copthorne A &#38; B qualified for the final (the only Sussex school with 2 teams in the [...]]]></description>

		<title>Blackland Farm</title>
		<description><![CDATA[BLACKLANDS FARM Year 2 also enjoyed a wonderful and  challenging trip to Blacklands Farm last week: Amber wrote; Yesterday Year 2 went to Blacklands Farm. We did lots of different things. We did the  abseiling, rock climbing and a crate test. On the crate test we had to be partners. I was with Yelena. We got 8 points. 		<title>RECEPTION LIBRARY VISIT</title>
		<description><![CDATA[Last Tuesday the Reception classes went to visit the newly revamped East Grinstead Library. At the library they were introduced to lots of new books and the librarian explained about fiction and non  fiction books.  They were also given a tour of the library  including behind the scenes. The object of the visit was to encourage the children to join a library and judging by their enthusiasm many parents are going to be persuaded to do so!]]></description>

		<title>SPORTS DAY</title>
		<description><![CDATA[We had a wonderful Sports Morning with the Nursery children .. 52 x 3 &#38; 4 year olds ran, skipped, hopped and crawled in a series of ‘International’ races which included kissing frogs in the French race, using tongs to transfer spaghetti in the Italian race and stabbing marshmallows with a ‘Japanese’  chopstick!  Mums skipped and Dads crawled too – and a lovely time was had by all.  The Pre Prep Sports afternoon was also bathed in sunshine.  Congratulations to the red team who won the House Shield, having put together points in the Carousel and the two relay races, [...]]]></description>
