Scholarships

ย

The school offers a number of Scholarships to both external and internal candidates annually. Awards may be available to children who show special academic ability. In addition, those who show special ability in non-academic fields such as Art, Music, Sport, and Drama may be considered for minor awards. Major awards can be up to half of the tuition fees in value. Award winners will generally be capable of winning a Scholarship to the senior school of their choice at 13+.

Scholarships are available at 7+, 8+, 9+, 10+, 11+ and 12+ for external candidates. Scholarships are available to internal candidates at 7+ {Year 3 entry) and 11+ (Year 7 entry).

The Scholarship Examination consists of four elements:

  • A test of reading and spelling ability.
  • A test of basic English.
  • A test of mathematics.
  • A verbal or Non-Verbal Reasoning Test according to age.

All are standardised tests and will test the potential of the candidate.

Parents are asked to indicate when entering their sons or daughters for the Scholarship Examination if they would like a particular ability from a non-academic field to be taken into account and an additional examination or interview will be arranged. Parents are requested to support such an application with relevant literature, e.g. music certificates, a list of sporting achievements, art portfolio etc., at the time of application. These items will be returned to the candidate on the day of the Scholarship Examination.

The Scholarship examination takes place in the Spring Term, and if successful, an external candidate must enter the school not later than the Autumn term immediately following the Scholarship Examination.

Should you have any queries regarding any aspect of the Scholarship Examination, or to request an application form, please do not hesitate to contact either the Headmaster, the Director of Studies or the School Secretary, all of whom will be able to help you.
