The House System
The House System is integral to Copthorne Prep and is a keenly fought competition each term. In Pre-prep they operate a similar system using the four colours; Red,Blue, Yellow and Green.
In the Prep department pupils are split into the four houses of; Newton, Rendall, Sale and Workman all having a historical reference to Copthorne Prep School- see History section for more details. These are also split into colours as follows; Rendall-Red, Sale-Yellow, Workman-Green and Newton-Blue. Each house has allocated members of staff who will chair the regular house meetings.
Each house nominates a House Captain who is responsible for making speeches if their house is Victorious and also organising teams for various inter-house activities.
Inter house activities include; House Poetry, Rounders, Cricket, Cross Country, Netball, Swimming, Sports day and on Innings day an ‘It’s a knockout event’.
There is a real camaraderie from the pupils whilst cheering their fellow House mates on in their endeavours for the House.
Each term the House Shield is awarded to the winning house of that term, this is decided upon by Star totals and any Inter House events that have taken part that term. Running totals for Stars are read out each week by the Headmaster in Assembly and then displayed on the House notice boards for all pupils to see.
