What happens if you get it wrong?

PREP Procedures

MINUTES OFF
You can be given anywhere between 1 and 10 “minutes off” dependent on your actions. You will be given a warning and your name will be placed on the board; if you continue to misbehave you will get “minutes off”. There are occasions where no warning is necessary and you will be given “minutes off” straight away.

REPORT CARDS
You may be placed on a report card for your behaviour, poor effort or too many “minutes off”. There are 4 different colour report cards, which are as follows:

  • YELLOW: this is voluntary
  • GREEN: you will be put on this by Mrs Lee or Mrs Wade
  • BLUE: this will be for a specific subject
  • RED: you will be placed on this if you have had more than 3 green report cards on separate occasions.

Whilst on report card you will report to Mrs Lee/Mrs Wade each break time, for every level 4 you get you will lose a break and a level 5 will be a lunchtime detention. More than 6 level 4’s in a week will result in an after-school detention.

DETENTIONS

You will be placed on a lunchtime detention for serious offences; fighting, verbal bullying/unkind comments etc, disturbing a lesson so that others cannot work or general, very poor behaviour. More than 3 detentions in a term will result in a letter home; anymore than 3 may result in after school detention or suspension.

SUSPENSION

An immediate suspension will be the result of violent behaviour or a serious issue. You can also be suspended for an accumulation of minutes off or more than 4 detentions in a term. 3 Suspensions could result in permanent EXCLUSION from Copthorne Prep School.

PRE-PREP Procedures

All rewards and sanctions must be applied fairly and consistently. None of the school’s punishments will be degrading or humiliating.

Sanctions should be applied when rewards have failed, or where it is necessary in the circumstances to show appropriate disapproval.

All staff must seek to ensure that punishments are proportionate to the offence, and should enable pupils to make reparation where possible.
