Subject Philosophy
A different language is a different vision of life." - Federico Fellini, Italian film director Learning a language should not be just an activity where the ultimate goal is to achieve an academic standard that will hang on a wall gathering dust, never to be used again. It is a life skill that will open doors to different cultures and experiences. To be mono-lingual limits an individual's personal growth and development, preventing them from stepping out of their own reality to sample what the rest of the world has to offer them.
Aims and Objectives
Our aims and objectives in teaching Spanish are firstly to promote confidence, enjoyment and proficiency in the four basic skills within the Spanish language- reading, writing, listening and speaking. Secondly, to provide an insight into the culture and customs of countries where Spanish is the official language.
Programme of Study
The curriculum at Copthorne is based on a three part course which takes pupils from beginner towards common entrance and beyond. It follows the QCA Scheme of work for Key stage three and encompasses the four key skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. ‘So you really want to learn Spanish’ was written by Mike Bolger who is both a Spanish teacher and principal examiner for A-level Spanish for one of the three major examining boards.
