Subject Philosophy
As in all things the Geography Department follows the school’s philosophy policy as laid out in the Teaching and Learning policy. However further to that it is important to ask the question "Why do we need to teach/learn Geography?"
Aims and Objectives
The main aims of the teaching of Geography at Copthorne are: 1 to provide an integrated framework which allows continuous development of the subject throughout the school. 2 to develop in the pupil a strong interest in their immediate surroundings, spreading to the world at large.
Programmes of Study
Geography is seen as a key subject at Copthorne and is taught as a stand alone subject throughout the Prep school and remains a core subject for us at CE and Scholarship. The subject is taught by specialists from Year 4 up with the Head of Department teaching all forms from Year 5.
