This was a very loud and exciting gala. The Copthorne Cheerleaders were in fine form, ably led by Mr Mendola, and they certainly won the ‘who can make the most noise’ event?!? The swimming results were variable although, as always, everyone who swam tried their hardest. It would be good to see a few more of the team at training on a Tuesday and Thursday as this would undoubtedly make a difference. Many thanks to the ‘B’ Team swimmers who stepped in once again to cover for...

Year 8 are currently soaking up the sun (and unfortunately, this morning, some rain as well) on their annual watersports trip to Lac Cazaux which is located just south of Arcachon. Day 1 was spent sailing catamarans, Day 2 gave them the chance to try windsurfing and then explore the local forests on mountain bikes followed by a trip to the Dune de Pyla. Today they have been to the local water park followed by a trip into Arcachon for some retail therapy. We’re currently cheering on England...
The Hurstpierpoint Team looked just that bit stronger and fitter as time after time their freestyle swimmers came in just ahead of ours. Perhaps lost pool time at the end of last term was to blame? Perhaps Christmas was just a little too good? Perhaps the journey to Hurst too long? Whatever the reason we were in second place and needed to do something about it and quick. I’m pleased to say that from then on, every swimmer on the team played their part. We fought back through the more technical...

The first outing for the Athletics Squad was a most successful event. We achieved numerous 1st and 2nd places across a range of events in each of the three age groups. Times and distances showed significant improvements on what has been achieved thus far in lessons proving how important it is to compete in this type of event. This is very much used as a warm up event for what is to come later in the term and I was encouraged by what I saw. The relays were again our downfall as we lacked four specialist...

The ‘A’ Team were again in action this afternoon against Cumnor House. Unlike the last time that we met Cumnor, we were able to field an almost full complement of ‘A’ Team swimmers. This meant the gala was much more competitive and much closer. The lead changed hands constantly during the course of the gala and we were in a strong position after the individual events. The relays were once again our downfall and in spite of some good starts and take overs, we lacked speed...

A most enjoyable home gala against Ashdown House. The ‘A’ Team swam particularly well to come 1st in 16 of the 21 events. This gave us 101 points to Ashdown ‘A’ Team’s 81 points. I was pleased to see some of the work that has been done in swimming training paying off, particularly with the starts and turns. The ‘B’ team had a tougher time against the Ashdown House ‘B’ team and were equal on points going into the final round of relays. Unfortunately...
