On the 17th of November, two minibuses departed Copthorne full of eager year 8 artists bound for the De La Warr Pavilion Gallery in Bexhill.  The purpose of the visit was to view the touring ‘Warhol is Here’ exhibition which explores artist Andy Warhol’s beliefs, lifestyle and legacy.  Year 8 are studying Warhol’s work and were lucky enough to receive a guided tour of the exhibition with a local artist.  It was exciting for the students to see Warhol’s work up close, and they showed...

The younger children have been talking about all the colours of the rainbow this week. They have made rainbow birds, and beautiful butterflies decorated with multi-coloured collage to hang on the walls. Next week is black and white so watch out for snowy night time pictures! The older classes have been reading about a very naughty cat called ‘Slinky Malinki’. They enjoyed listening to the stories in which he turns from a good cat during the day to a rascally cat at night. To tie in with...

We all made out own individual scrap books in the morning and started to fill them with different sketches. Some drew parts of school whereas others looked at the natural environment. Year 3 had a great day which culminated in them cave painting outside – Mrs Wade was spying her new class outside the window! Year 4 ended the day making Native American Totems from felt. Using fabric glue for the first time in the class room meant we had to have all the windows open but the finished results were...

… Buttons, poppers, ribbons. Old (clean) longish socks – to make sock monsters (plain and patterns). Any old unwanted interesting smallish objects…. such as an old typewriter, old watch/clock with cogs, old screwdrivers. Please note these items wont be returned!!  

PRE-PREP ART In case you have not noticed, impressions of Degas’ work are appearing all over the department. The children are required to observe an original piece of art very closely, and then do their best to reproduce it! We study 9 different artists on a 3 year programme, hoping that children will learn to recognise and appreciate famous works of art; this intention bears fruit in Year 2 when the children visit the National Gallery and often are able to recognise works by artists they have...

Mrs Powley’s class have been looking at the children’s individual timelines from newborn to present with wonderful photos from home. Mrs Joad’s class have put their names up in lights, (well, glitter!) They have also painted some super self portraits as they continue to look at ‘All about me’.

Entries must be in by Monday please and the competition is open to all children. Designs for the Fête programme are to be sized A5 on white paper, bright and colourful designs with the theme of the Wild West! Winners will receive 2 tickets for use at the Fête stalls.
