Strengthening Paper

Year 3KW had the challenge to strengthen an A2 sheet of tissue paper so that it could hold at least a 100g weight. Working in pairs they came up with different solutions. Freddie and Elliott won the challenge by PVA glueing small sheets of the tissue paper together to make a very robust structure. We only had 1kg 900g in weight and it stood up to that without any problem. Ayush, Ethan and Jonathan decided to sellotape around their paper and the final structure supported 300g. Nura and Josie folded their paper in a rectangular shape and theirs held 200g. read the full post »

Year 3 have been making scary spiders jumping out of their webs this week in DT! They attached two differetn size syringes to a piece of plastic tubing and were able to manoevre the spider in and out of his wen using the air in one of the syringes. They had fun taking them to Mrs Richards (Head of DT) who was impressed with their construction skills. Next week we hope to make flying bats!

Learning about pneumatic systems in DT

Year 3 have started a new topic in DT this term learning about pneumatic systems. We blew up balloons, used balloon pumps, foot pumps and even a fairy liquid bottle pump. We found out that air can make objects move and the more air the further things go. Look out for our scary monsters at the end of term!

Discrimination Test

Could the Year 3′s tell the difference between butter, margarine and mayonnaise? With their eyes shut the children were given a small piece of bread with each of the three spreads on it. They then had to say what they thought they had eaten. Cheese and vinegar were some of the options – one person even thought they had eaten marmite! A lot of fun – I look forward to their choices for their favourite sandwich fillings next week. Mums and Dads they will be asking you if they can go shopping for theirtems or raiding your store cupboard the read the full post »
