The start of the CE course for the year 7 pupils and Ordnance Survey has been the major topic of the term so far.The half term challenge is to try and get out into the countryside with an OS map and see if you can navigate the real world, which means no GPS! It doesn’t matter how near to hoe or how far you travel just see if you can identify symbols and other map features. If you just happen to be in the Seaford area perhaps you can see the features that have been looked at in class on the...
Having posed the questions “what is Geography and how do we study it?” and hopefully answered this, the year 6 pupils are moving on to look at our weather and climate. What makes up the weather and how do we measure it. Here’s a challenge for the rapidly approaching half term. Can you run a weather station for a week/fortnight? Obviously a thermometer is essential but can you make your own rain gauge and remember to take reading every day at the same time every day? Obviously if...
During this term the Year 5 pupils will be looking at water processes and the features that they create. This will include the simple processes of erosion, transport and deposition. The features looked at will include those created both by rivers and the sea. If you are out and about during the up coming half term see if you can spot any of the features formed by the work of moving water.Photographs of any of these features may well attract suitable reward after half term.
All projects should now have been submitted and will be returned for any necessary editing by students before the Autumn half term. The projects should be finally submitted for grading in the week following half term so that they can be forwarded to the appropriate Senior Schools for final moderation. As already mentioned this is an ideal opportunity for Year 8 students to gain up to 20% of their final Common Entrance mark prior to the examination in June. If there are any problems regarding these...
Year 4 have been building bridges this week in Geography. We are looking at Bangladesh this term and so far have travelled from Dhaka the Capital city to Sylhet a small town in the North East. The children have really enjoyed this topic so far and have created some fantastic bridges! Well done to all, I know you enjoyed this lesson. HC
Our Year 5 trip to Wakehurst Place was amazing! When we arrived there, we split up into 2 groups, 5DJ and 5LD. My group, 5DJ went down to the mansion, and were given a talk through how seeds germinate. 5DJ were then split up into 2 groups and we set off on a seed trail with one of the Wakehurst Place teachers. My group was with Mr Miles, and we looked at lots of different trees and how they disperse their seeds, and we saw one tree that dispersed its seeds by birds eating the seed, then flying...

Year 7 will be going out to do their CE fieldwork during the week commencing Monday 23rd May. The actual date will be weather dependant but each form will be out of school for half a day. The study will involve the upper section of the River Medway between the source at Turners Hill and Weirwood reservoir. A number of sites will be used and data involving the speed of flow, the cross-sectional area and the bed load will be collected. This information will form the basis of the fieldwork project which...
