Who Ordered a Pizza?

Bumblebees Cook Up a Slice of Fun!

There has been lots of excitement in Bumblebees’ class this week as our role-play area was transformed into a bustling Pizza and Ice Cream Parlour! The children put their fantastic imaginations to work, drawing on their own experiences to become talented chefs and friendly shopkeepers. They created mouth-watering pretend pizzas, cooked them in our pizza oven, and served delicious ice creams to their friends. The parlour was full of happy customers, busy workers and lots of chatter all week long!

Spot-tacular Learning in Butterflies

This week in Butterflies, we have been reading What the Ladybird Heard at the Seaside. The children enjoyed exploring the story and taking part in a variety of ladybird-themed activities.

One of the highlights was a ladybird hunt, where the children searched for stone ladybirds hidden around the setting. Each ladybird had a different number of spots, from one to twelve, giving the children a fun opportunity to practise their counting skills as they carefully counted each set of spots.

Our favourite activity of the week was making healthy snacks to look like our spotty friends. The children used a rice cake for the body, strawberries for the wings, and blueberries for the spots to create their own delicious snack. The children were fantastic at listening carefully and following instructions throughout the activity. There was lots of pride in the finished ladybirds and some children managed to save them to take home and share with their family!

Well done, Butterflies, for another wonderful week of learning and fun.

Stop! It’s the Glitter Police

Butterflies nursery class have continued exploring our exciting theme, “When We Grow Up.” This week, we’ve been learning all about the role of the police in our community. The children had so much fun creating their very own police badges using blue and gold glitter. They carefully sprinkled the glitter, demonstrating excellent fine motor skills and a brilliant pincer grip, and produced some truly sparkly masterpieces!

We are also delighted to welcome some new friends to our class this week. They have settled in beautifully and are already making lots of new friendships. Gigi got stuck in straightaway making a fabulous police badge, what a superstar! The children are thoroughly enjoying these creative activities and are excited to continue learning about the amazing people who help keep our community safe.

Sound the Alarm! Bumblebees to the Rescue!

Bumblebees pre-school children have continued exploring their global question “Who Helps Us?”

They have been learning about firefighters and other people who help us. They have really enjoyed using their imagination in the role play area, pretending to be firefighters and exploring how they help to keep us safe. The children loved dressing up, using the fire engine, and acting out different helping roles. Through their play, they have been developing their understanding of the world around them, as well as learning about kindness, teamwork, and helping others.

Early Years Visit Little Street

Reception and Bumblebees pre-schoolers had a wonderful time visiting Little Street this week! The children confidently stepped into a variety of roles, including hairdressers, postal workers, actors, dancers, firefighters and vets. They thoroughly enjoyed shopping in the supermarket, cooking and eating in the café, and exploring all the different areas.

The highlight of the day for many was capturing the “baddies” and putting them into the prison! It was fantastic to see such creativity, teamwork and imagination throughout the visit. What a brilliant and imaginative day we had!

Reception also welcomed a special visitor — Matron. She told the children about her role, showed them her first aid bag and taught them how to use plasters and bandages. The children thoroughly enjoyed this fun and informative afternoon learning all about first aid. A big thank you to Matron for such an interesting afternoon!

When We Grow Up, We Want to Be…

This week, thanks to one of our lovely parents, the children in nursery had the exciting opportunity to try on a real firefighter uniform. Avantheka especially loved wearing the helmet and boots and was very happy exploring what it might feel like to be a firefighter.

As part of our learning, we have also been creating fire pictures through colour mixing. Using one hand painted yellow and one hand painted red, the children mixed the colours together to make orange before creating their handprint fire art.

The children have also been enjoying discussions about what they would like to be when they grow up. So far, we have heard a wonderful range of ideas including teachers, vets, scientists, firefighters, mermaids and, of course, Batman.

Fairies in our Woodland

Over the past two weeks, we have been working on a project in the woodland area. We painted fairy sticks to attract the attention of the fairies. Once the sticks were positioned the fairies arrived. During a walk through the woods, we followed fairy dust and observed the arrival of the fairies, who identified themselves as Holly and Ben.

Investigating our Super Bones

Keeping with our theme of “A Superhero Like Me” and people who help us, we made our own hand X-rays and talked about doctors, hospitals and the different ways they help us. We spoke about whether any of the children had ever had an X-ray before, what it might feel like, and why doctors might need to take pictures of our bones. The children really enjoyed these conversations and were so engaged in sharing their own experiences. Kai was especially proud of his X-ray hand and loved showing it off!

Pre-schooler Ambitions

This week, Bumblebees class have been exploring the concept of real-life superheroes. We subsequently discussed our aspirations for the future. Remi created a drawing of herself as a scientist, explaining that she wants to become one because, “I want to learn all about new things.”
