Pre-School Adventures with Antarctic Friends

In Bumblebees pre-school class, we have continued our exploration of snowy animals, with our book of the week being ‘The Penguin Who Wanted to Fly’.  We have been engaging in activities such as creating colourful, sparkly icy playdough and matching-coloured pom-poms to accompanying penguins. Additionally, in our tuff spot, we have been role-playing with small Antarctic animals to enhance our understanding.

Let’s Huddle!

Our Bumblebees Pre-schoolers have been exploring the topic of penguins. Our activities have included threading penguins to develop fine motor skills, participating in penguin-themed maths exercises, constructing igloos from sugar cubes, and engaging in a carousel activity with the Reception class. During this session, Bumblebees class created penguin pictures using paint, pens, and pencils.

Penguin Fun in Nursery

In Nursery, we have been enjoying the story The Penguin Who Wanted to Fly and have loved exploring the story through number activities and movement.  Some of the children took their time carefully matching the numbered eggs to the correct penguins, showing great concentration, and developing early maths skills.

We have also been practising our best penguin waddles and making the most of the sunshine in the nursery garden. The children enjoyed playing with the hula hoops and developing their balance and coordination on the balance bikes.

Butterflies Have Fun with Friends in Nursery

This week in Butterflies we have been celebrating friendship, teamwork, and self-expression. The children have worked together to build tracks, explore water, and sand, and share ideas through imaginative play. We have been encouraging the children to take turns, listen to their friends, and express their thoughts and feelings with growing confidence. It has been lovely to see them supporting one another, solving problems as a team, and proudly showing their unique personalities in everything they do.

Love is in the Air in Pre-School!

This week, we have been discussing who we care about and the reasons why, in preparation for Valentine’s Day at the weekend. Additionally, we created personalised Valentine’s cards for our parents by decorating our knuckles with paint to resemble bees, reflecting our class name. We then independently wrote our own names inside the cards without assistance.

There’s Something Fishy Happening at Pre-School!

This week in Bumblebees pre-school class, we have been exploring the story of Tiddler, the storytelling fish. Our activities have included sharing underwater stories with our peers, comparing fish sizes in our maths area, and creating fish bone illustrations using cotton buds. The most enjoyable part of the week was crafting fish sculptures from clay and adding sequin scales.

‘Oh, no, they didn’t!’ ‘Oh, yes, they did!’

This week in Butterflies lower nursery class, the children have been enjoying the story Tiddler. We talked about Tiddler’s tall tales and his friends, exploring lots of different sea creatures through messy play with foam and number activities. The children enjoyed being creative, making their own Tiddler and starfish using a variety of materials, developing their fine motor skills and imagination along the way. ‘Oh, no, they didn’t!’ ‘Oh, yes, they did!’

Bumblebees and the Young Submarine

We have continued our ‘Under the Sea’ theme and explored the story of ‘Sharing a Shell’. This week in Bumblebees preschool class, the children have been working collaboratively to paint a submarine and to create self-portraits to place inside. They have also been decorating rocks, constructing crabs using paper plates, and sorting number blocks onto the tentacles of a jellyfish.

Sharing, Sport & Shells in Nursery

We’ve had a very busy week in Butterflies! We’ve continued sharing our story Sharing a Shell, focusing on being kind to our friends and learning how to share. The children enjoyed a PE session where they learned all about the badminton shuttlecock, and we also got creative by decorating some beautiful shells. A lovely week of learning, teamwork and fun!

Friendships Grow in Butterflies

In Nursery, Butterflies have also been enjoying Julia Donaldson’s ‘Sharing a Shell’, with a special focus on friendship and sharing. The children have taken part in a range of fun, hands-on activities, including exploring colours, mark making and creating their own crabs for our story display. They have been wonderful at sharing resources, playing alongside one another, and showing kindness to their friends. It has been lovely to see friendships growing as the children work together and take pride in their creations.
