Reception – enjoyed a wonderful visit from Mrs Christopherson … this time in her role as a vet. She brought along their large Labrador Norman, together with his toothbrush and his chicken flavoured toothpaste (dogs apparently prefer meaty flavours to minty ones!) The children were able to listen to Norman’s heartbeat with a stethoscope, and enjoyed handling a horse’s skull and learning that a horse’s teeth grow continuously and have to be filed down.

At the end of last term, we had some fun at the final assembly which was attended by the entire school. Led by the Reception classes, Gangnam ‘Copthorne’ Style was performed! You may have noticed that the look of this website has been changed slightly – we have modernised it, cleaned it up and added a responsive enabled layout which means it can be viewed via your smart phone, tablet or computer (including widescreen). Most of the photos have been updated and changed.  We will continue to update each section with news, team sheets, match reports and photos into the gallery.  You can also find menus, calendars, future school dates, school policies, boarding news...

We continue to be delighted with the way this new reading and phonics scheme is working in our department. Children are making good progress and enjoying the lessons, while staff are able to share information about children more easily as we share the teaching of literacy, and children move between groups. We have been learning about the countryside code, including remembering to leave gates closed and not to scare the animals. We have also studied tracks made by animals, vehicles and human beings. We have made wax rubbings of the soles of our footwear, so look out.

We have had lots of exciting snowy days, making snowmen, snow blocks for igloos and a range of snow sculptures. As part of our farming topic we have tasted a variety of breads. The children’s favourite was soya and linseed, and the least favourite was rye; white bread was not offered!

We have been planting different types of seeds. We all make a grassy head man, so let’s hope his hair grows! We also planted cress seeds: some on wet cotton wool and some on dry paper towels, to com-pare their growth. Look out for our farm pictures that we made using our 2D shapes.

We have heard about the wonderful Christmas presents and holiday fun as the children have been busy writing their Christmas ‘news’. Our new topic this term is all about farms. We will be looking at animals and finding out about growing crops over the next few weeks, before our visit to Plumpton College in March. Please don’t forget to bring a toy for Golden Time each Friday.
