Years 1 & 2 had a very informative visit to the Sikh Gurdwara in Crawley. We were made to feel very welcome and taken into the Prayer Room where we were told all about the Sikh religion and their 5 K’s (Kanga – comb, Kaccha – undershorts, Kirpan – knife, Kesh – uncut hair and Kara – the bangle). We also listened to Giani Ji, the priest, playing the harmonium, reading from the Holy Book and praying for the children’s education, health, future success and for...

We had a wonderful day with Mrs Phukan, who came in to tell us all about the Hindu celebration Diwali. She told us the story of Rama and Sita and then Diya performed a wonderful traditional dance for us wearing the most exquiste dress. The sun was shining so we went outside to draw some Rangoli patterns and coloured them in with chalks and a special powder. We then lit tealights around the patterns and said an Indian prayer. The girls were lucky enough to have Mendhi patterns drawn on their hands...

What a treat Year 1 had on Thursday morning! We set off early to visit Saint Leonard’s Church in Turners Hill. We wanted to look at stained glass as part of our ‘colour’ topic and also to see the baptismal font. Mr Tregunno (Father Tim) welcomed us to the church with a prayer before we divided into three groups for some hands on exploration. One group tried on priest’s vestments with Father Tony, while another tried their hands (and arms) at bell ringing. The third group had a close...

The word poverty means the condition of not having basic human needs such as clean water, nutrition, basic health care, a good education, clothing and shelter. I think that every human being should have these things in their life to help them...

In recent R.E lessons, Year 7 have been learning about the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. We have also considered how to write a powerful and persuasive speech and compared Martin Luther King’s famous ‘I have a dream….’ speech with Barack Obama’s acceptance speech. Over the holidays Year 7 pupils have written their own speeches concerning issues that they feel passionate about. Over the coming weeks, these speeches will be published on the school website...

I Have A Dream (Inspired By Martin Luther King) GLOBAL WARMING A couple of years ago a group of very clever people discovered that we are adding gasses to our atmosphere and making it thicker. This is called THE GREEN HOUSE GAS AFFECT. By making our atmosphere thicker, we retain more heat (less can escape). Although this does mean more of the sun’s radiation is reflected back into space, we are still gaining heat faster than we are losing it. The affects of this are we are warming up and melting...
