Although we didn’t win the toss, Copthorne was determined to set the pace batting first. Initially our batting wasn’t as strong as it can be however as a result of several no balls and some great shots and sharp judgement from the girls we managed to enter fielding with 9½. Our bowling was strong and Great Walstead found it difficult to score especially as there was some strong fielding- we managed to get 8 batters out with 5 good balls left. Our passing was accurate and fast and it wasn’t...

Despite the constant threat of rain and a sudden hailstorm we were lucky to play a whole match. Despite losing this was a fairly even sided game. Copthorne opened the batting and despite some accurate and very fast bowling from Cumnor we were able to score six rounders. Our fielding was tight too which prevented the opposition from scoring more than five. However it was in the second innings that we made some mistakes and with 6 good balls left we were down to one batter. As a result we did not score...

This was a great match to end the season with. Over the last couple of days many of the girls have been playing in different positions during practise sessions and it certainly helped them today. The girls worked hard as a team and deserved their win today. In the first half our defence worked hard to prevent Notre Dame from shooting whilst our attack passed the ball quickly to the D. It was important for the girls to make their mark from the onset; which they did. By the second half Copthorne were...

Copthorne started the match well by converting their first centre pass into a goal. Ardingly quickly followed suite. Copthorne soon scored their second. However, Ardingly began to set a fast pace and Copthorne began to miss the opportunities they needed to match their score. In the second quarter Copthorne lost a couple of their centre pass advantages which allowed Ardingly to roar ahead with their score. After some changes and rallying around at half-term the girls began the third quarter well,...

This was a great match for me to watch/umpire and to see just how much the girls had improved!  Charlotte was captain for this match and she won the toss, it wasn’t long before we scored our first goal but Ardingly managed to score their goal straight afterwards.  However, this was to be the only time they did score and with our fabulous defence of Lily, Loren and Georgie the Ardingly shooters only had one other opportunity! Charlotte completely dominated all areas of the court, marking her partner...

Copthorne started the match boldly with a great interception from Harriet in the opposition’s and the match’s first centre pass. With great speed and accuracy Copthorne passed the ball quickly into the D where Alys scored the first of many goals. Our girls were keen to stride ahead and with some great defending from Jemima and Karina, St Christophers found it very difficult to score allowing us to lead by 5-1 by the end of the first eight minutes. In the second quarter Copthorne continued...

Despite the drizzle and rain, the girls were keen to play and as soon as the whistle blew our forwards attacked and gained possession of the ball. Although both teams were evenly matched Copthorne were stronger in their tackles. What we lacked at times was positional play which prevented us from scoring on several occasions. There were glimpses of great hockey at times, one of which resulted in a great pass from Zillyan to Natalie who was in the D. Natalie’s goal was fantastic and she proved...
