Posts in Year 1

Huge congratulations to all the children in Years 1 & 2 who swam, cycled and ran so well in our 3rd Triathlon. It was wonderful to see the perseverance and determination from such young children; hopefully everyone slept well on Thursday night! A very big thank you to Jenny Parker for her wonderful organisation, and also to all her various helpers: Robin Parker, Mr & Mrs Verco (Jenny’s parents), Lisa Jones (Natasha’s mum), Adam, a wonderful group of Year 7 pupils, and of course all the...

Year 1 – also had a wonderful day at Drusillas, despite the inclement weather! There was just the right balance of learning and fun. In the Education Centre, some of the children were dressed in a variety of waistcoats to demonstrate the different classifications in the animal kingdom. All were amazed to see the spine of the turtle ‘welded’ into the shell. All the children have written about their day out. Here are some snippets: The milk snake eats mice, the milk snake was called...

I would like to remind all drivers to take particular care in the Pre-Prep car park. At Kiss & Drop, some parents are busy waving goodbye to their children as they drive off … please look carefully around you before putting your foot on the accelerator – there are often other small people walking towards the entrance. Also, when reversing out of parking spaces, not every-one looks carefully enough … please remember that the children are often much smaller than the cars and cannot...

Please can I remind parents that no-one should be driving up Effingham Lane from the Hedgehog, as this is effectively a voluntary one-way system down towards the Hedgehog Pub for all Copthorne parents. All cars should approach the school from the Dukes Head end, and as many cars as possible should exit via the Hedgehog, turning left at this busy junction. It goes without saying that parents should drive at no more than 5 mph on the school site, and driving whilst on the phone is illegal!

We had a wonderful sunny walk this week and found some natural materials then looked at some sculptures from an artist called Andy Goldsworthy. We tried to create our own collages using only natural items – do you like them!?
