Just as last week against Pennthorpe we struggled to get started and were on the back foot right through the first half. Set pieces were working well, with Jack, Nico, Zach, Toby and Gabes working together to dominate the scrum, however we found it difficult to cope with the rush defence of Walstead’s backs. In defence we were sucked into too many rucks and did not number up in the loose leaving massive overlaps out wide which were exploited. If the truth be told, we missed far too many tackles...
Our first away day of the season took us on the winding roads to Pennthorpe. We knew this was going to be a tough fixture and it was made even tougher with the loss of Matthew (10), who was unavailable. The reshuffle in the backs still looked strong on paper but the unfamiliarity of defensive positioning cost us 2 of the first half trys. Pennthorpe attacked well and for all of our strong tackling we could not apply enough pressure to stop them. Going behind in a game has so far been uncharted...
After having a week of snow disruption we got back into our netball again this week. Working really hard in lessons on dodging and passing into space, which the girls did very well today. We were a bit slow to get going in the first quarter, missing a few shots, which resulted in Brambletye scoring the first goal. After the goal the Copthorne girls woke up and started putting a number of passes together very well and the shots were flying in from Yelena and Alice who had to fight against their...

Copthorne chess players, Adam Smith, Zevon Rustom and Elliott Martin-Drew were recently in action at a Junior Chess Tournament at Goffs Park in Crawley. Collectively they ammassed 38/45 points to enable Copthorne to finish in top spot once again, with Adam and Zevon finishing in 1st and 2nd places respectively! Very well played.
Congratulations to Jamie W, Dan G, Madeleine L and Ben K who helped Copthorne to joint top spot at the Chess tournament last week at Brambletye. Individual prizes were awarded to Dan, Madeleine and Ben for scoring the most points on their relative boards. The results from this tournament count towards the County Butler Cup so with only Warden Park and Worth to play, we are in a strong position! Well played.
