Reception News – Spring Term 2017 – Week 2

We hope that the children in Reception have come home this week talking about symmetry! They have been exploring this topic in maths, folding, colouring, and discussing how some shapes are symmetrical and looking at butterflies, cats and other animals! We moved on to repeating patterns and the children were able to manage some more difficult patterns. Next week we will be looking at doubling and halving numbers.

We loved continuing our “Bear Hunt” theme as we talk about Journeys on foot! We really enjoyed reading the story of ‘We are Going on a Bear Hunt’ and singing a new bear song. After last week’s forest school bear hunt activity, we decided to write what we saw on our hunt! This is still a work in progress. I am sure you will be amazed at our results! Some very good emergent writing in Reception.

Please could parents make sure children have trainers in every day for school and warm clothes in this cold weather.

We would also love you to discuss your journey to school with your child … Talk about how long it takes, what you go past and any other interesting things you see along the way! Next week we are looking at travelling by rail!!
