A very close and exciting game with both teams placing fielders in the right position resulting in a low scoring game. Copthorne chose to field first and got off to a fantastic start getting 2 batters out at first post off the 3rd & 4th ball thanks to quick fielding and accurate throwing to Rosie. The girls where now really into the game and on top form, Jemima S soon found herself in the right place to take her 1st catch of the afternoon to get the 3rd batter out. Hurst slowly clawed their way back into the game by making good judgements and placing the ball between fielders, thus they managed to pick up a couple of half rounders. As the innings was drawing closer to the end the home side tried to increase the number of rounders. Lily-Grace gave them something to think about as she held onto a super catch over her shoulder. The girl’s performance in the field continued to be spot on with Sheen, Katherine and Jemima S combining well with Rosie to stump batters out at 1st & 2nd Post.
Our batting still remains our weak link. The girls constantly connect with the ball but just can’t seem to place the ball in the right place to get all the way to 2nd post. On a positive, the girls ran sensibly between posts and didn’t risk unnecessary run outs until closer to the end when we needed the half rounders.
The 2nd innings was much the same as the first, Katie bowling well and backed up with more speedy fielding from both Jemima’s, Rosie and Khushi. Katherine worked tirelessly as back stop and also held onto a super catch. Jemima S was once again in the middle of the action taking another well watched catch.
Copthorne’s 2nd innings with the bat looked promising with Jemima C and Sheen giving hope to the side by scoring a rounder each. They were helped with half rounders from Jemima S, Katie and Lila. Hurst bowled and fielded well to limit our scoring and unfortunately we still fell 1 rounder short in the end.
The girls were not too disappointed as they knew they played their best game so far of the season.
