1st VII Netball v Great Walstead – Won 20-7

A beautiful sunny day for our match against Great Walstead  –  more like rounders weather than netball!

The Copthorne girls made a terrific start to this match turning over Great Walstead’s first centre pass.  Within the first 5 minutes we were winning by 5-0!  Great Walstead didn’t know what had hit them!  However, the Walstead girls soon settled into their netball and managed to close the gap ending the first quarter 5-3.

The second quarter was a tough battle with neither team giving in.  Abi had a great game at centre and used the space on the court well.  Sian also had a good game, marking her partner well and making some great passes.  Amber and Jess were awesome in defence, really stretching over the ball and putting the Walstead shooters under enormous pressure.  Great work girls!

Second quarter ended 6-5 to Copthorne.

Sofia had a tough game against an extremely talented and strong GD.  However, she used her skills wisely and managed to get free and offloaded the ball well.  Unfortunately the GD received an injury to her arm and went off right at the beginning of the third quarter, and this is when the Copthorne girls really did the damage!!

Charlotte and Sofia soon got their eye in and managed to put away 11 goals to Great Walstead’s 1.  Fabulous play from Abi, Frosty, Roselly and Jess in the centre of the court intercepting the ball and sending it right back to our waiting shooters.

Fantastic shooting girls!  Third quarter 17-6

In the final quarter the girls were told to keep possession and to slow the game down.  A few mad moments saw the ball being given away cheaply to the opposition but we had a big enough lead and a few little mistakes in the end really didn’t matter.

Well done girls  –  you were all brilliant today!  A really good team performance!

Roselly was voted as Player of the Match by the Great Walstead team.  Well done Roselly!

Thank you to the parents who came to support.  MJ
