Boys Hockey season off to a flyer against Cumnor

Monday evening saw a new initiative for the senior boys at Copthorne: Our first ever indoor Hockey match.  We played 2 teams of 6 boys against Cumnor and for the first fixture of its kind, the standard was surprisingly good.  Overall we came out comfortably on top with 3 wins and 1 defeat, but it was by no means an easy victory; Cumnor who have also played very little hockey contested each game well.

The results were as follows:

Copthorne As    3    Cumnor Bs    0    Scorers: Gianluca (2) and Edward.

Copthorne Bs    0    Cumnor As    3

Copthorne Bs    3    Cumnor Bs    0    Scorer: Duncan (3).

Copthorne As    3    Cumnor As    1  Scorers: Gianluca (2), Edward.

Every boy who played for us did a great job, but in the Bs the outstanding players were Elliot in goal, Minchan in defence; even when he missed a tackle he had the pace to get back and make another!  James N looked assured in mid-field and Duncan also stood out with a great hat-trick.

For the As Morgan really kept our chances alive in the first quarter of the final game with some great saves.  Andy and Nils were solid in defence all night; they only conceded one goal in total.  Edward looked very composed and classy in mid-field, contributing with some valuable goals, the best of which was a clean finish from a penalty corner.  Gianluca also stood out; he was our top scorer on the night and never allowed the Cumnor defenders a moments rest.

Well done the boys; I shall expect the same high standards in every match to come.  Thank you to Mr Coulson for giving us the chance to develop in another sport, and to Miss P for her expertise.
