Colts A Rugby v Duke of Kent

Copthorne 19 – Duke of Kent 14

Perfect playing conditions after a week of frost.  We might have gave alot away in terms of size but definately not in passion and fight.

Duke of Kent started the game a lot quicker and turned this good possession into points after a break down the blind side caught our defence napping.  It didn’t take us long to get into our rhythm and good ball retention edged us closer to the try line.  We had a strong 5 minute spell where we commited enough players to win ruck after ruck and the backs were running some straight, strong lines to keep the momentum going. Oscar found himself in space and darted towards the line only to be tripped short of the score area, but at the 2nd attempt managed to get points on the board under heavy pressure.  A couple of missed tackles allowed Duke of Kent back over the try area to take the lead but with only seconds to play, Oscar once again crossed to level the scores after a strong scrum and incisive pass from Andrew.

The second half brought much of the same.  We were the strongest at rucks and continued to win scrums against the head.  Time after time we found ourselves inches away from scoring but some determined Duke of Kent tackles kept us at bay.  A strong platform from a scrum and a darting run blind from Andrew allowed for a simple 3rd try of the match for Oscar to give us the lead.

It was a closely contested game but we ran out deserved winners.  It is too hard to single any player out as a man of the match as everybody put in their tackles, rucked well and were 100% commited.  More hard work in training and we’ll be ready for St. Aubyns.  Well done!!
