Colts A Rugby v Great Walstead

Just as last week against Pennthorpe we struggled to get started and were on the back foot right through the first half.  Set pieces were working well, with Jack, Nico, Zach, Toby and Gabes working together to dominate the scrum, however we found it difficult to cope with the rush defence of Walstead’s backs.  In defence we were sucked into too many rucks and did not number up in the loose leaving massive overlaps out wide which were exploited.  If the truth be told, we missed far too many tackles which in previous weeks would have been made.

The second half display was much different and with Dylan, Matthew, Chris and Tom leading the charge we started to force them back and even created some chances which we should have scored from.  Tom was unlucky to be held up over the line after smashing through 3 tacklers and later Gabes found himself within inches before the maul came to a stand-still.  Zac, Will, Daniel and Robbie were limited to a defensive role and put in a much improved second half display and forwards sub, Ben, came on to keep up the pressure in the scrum.

There is plenty to work on in training and I am sure we will get back to winning ways soon, starting away at Hazelwood next week.

Defence wins matches.  Attack determines by how many.
