Colts ‘A’ Rugby v Lancing Prep – Lost 28-7

This was a game that we could have won, but we did not play at our best, especially in the first half, and we allowed the two good Lancing players to dominate the game and score all their points between them. We started well and put pressure on our opponents straight from the kick-off, but knock-ons, poor decisions and some below standard passing cost us dear. We went into the half time break 2 tries down, one from a kick and chase with a lucky bounce and the other from a well rehearsed line-out move, with some of our players not even puffing!!
The second half was much better, and we dominated possession and passed the ball well although without much penetration. Their talented scrum half sneaked over for a second try from the same line-out throw over the top of the forwards, before Ben Kinnear pulled one back after some good play from Matthew Hannah who looked impressive. Evan again tackled well, James Hayes worked hard and the second half was a much better display of running rugby. To their credit, Lancing tackled well and our speedy players never got away. Not quite the continued improvement the coach was looking for and expecting, but credit to the team for a more determined second half performance. A home game next week, against Pennthorpe who will provide a stern test of our determination and resolve. We need to be at our very best if we are going to compete and sadly this week we were not at our best. CJ
