Colts A Football Festival at Windlesham

This week we travelled to Windlesham on a slightly rainy day for a 5 team football festival. Matches were 6 mins each way, and a good level of football was played.

Match 1: Copthorne 2  Ardingly  1

We started quite well, but this was a close match, and we went ahead from a nice header by Bradley from a good cross by Nemo. Ardingly equalised, and both teams were competing well, but Bradley played a lovely lobbed pass in to Beau who hit a nice first time finish to win the game. Zevon kept the victory for us with an excellent sliding challenge to stop his old mate Aayan from shooting.

Match 2: Copthorne  0  Great Walstead  3

In our second game we came up against the strongest team at the festival. Walstead played lovely football and deserved their win. Nick in goal was kept pretty busy and had to dive full stretch to keep out a low skidding shot with a great save.  We need to learn to work harder in defence as a team in order to compete with teams of this standard.

Match 3: Copthorne  2  Windlesham  1

The hosts were a competitive side that gave us a good game. Both of our Year 5s Sam D and Ben C had a good match, with Ben keeping very composed on the left to put a lovely ball in that led to our first goal.  It was Beau who gave us the lead with a strong shot that deflected slightly past the keeper into the net. Windlesham equalised within a couple of minutes but Zach finished the game off with a nice header from a corner.

Match 4: Copthorne 2  Pennthorpe  0

In this game we kept up the nice passing game that we used against Windlesham in the previous game, and this saw us dominate the game and create lots of chances. Nemo opened the scoring with a fierce drive into the goal, and he could have had more with several shots coming close. Zach made it two nil and two for him on the day with another finish from a corner.

After all the games were completed we finished up the second best side out of the five, with Walstead deserving winners. Our boys played very well and should be proud of themselves though we will need to learn from our defeat if we want to compete at a higher level. Well done lads!  DJ
