U11A Rounders v St. Aubyns U12 – Lost 11-15

The U11s played against a tough U12 side today and although they were defeated some of the girls played the best rounders I have seen from them yet!  In the first innings Copthorne fielded first and found it difficult to adjust to the uphill bowling, and downhill batting, and made silly mistakes. However in the second half of the innings of fielding, the U11s picked their game up, resulting in them getting 7 of the 10 St. Aubyns players out, 4 of these at first post, with some great work between Katie as backstop and Sofia as first post! The U11s then went into bat, and again they were slow to begin at first but they soon started to pick up their pace with 9 players out of the 11 scoring at least ½ rounder each, and there was a fabulous rounder scored by Katie! After the first innings it was 9-7 to St. Aubyns so it was all to play for!

The U11s came out fighting with their fielding in the second half and were much tighter resulting in St. Aubyns scoring fewer rounders. There was some great work between Roselly as bowler, Katie as backstop, Sofia as first post, and Rebecca at second post. There was also some great work from Zoe, Isabella and Becca as deep fielders and Millie on third post who managed to stump out 4 of the 8 players! The U11s then went in for their second innings of batting, where the girls were very unsettled, and unfocused, resulting in lots of the girls getting out early. However there was a great rounder scored from Millie and with a minute and a half to play we were left with one batter Isabella, so it was down to 3 balls and on her third ball she managed to get all the way around to score another successful rounder, well done Isabella! The final score was 15 to St. Aubyns and 11 to Copthorne, a close fought match!

The U11s should be proud of their efforts today as they were playing a team that were a year up and gave it a good go! Well done girls and thank you to all the spectators!  Let’s see if we can finish the season on a win next week! Roselly, Rebecca, Becca, Millie, Sofia, Katie, Zoe, Masie, Zara, Isabella, Jessica.  TC
