U9A Rounders v Cumnor – Won 10½-9

| June 21, 2012 | Rounders Reports, Sports, Year 4

Well how lovely to see the sun, and the girls playing rounders in it! The girls were incredibly nervous today after having not played for a while and knowing that they were playing Cumnor, who always come back stronger the second time they play them!

Yelena captained the side today and having lost the toss Copthorne were in to bat first. The U9s took a few too many risks early on when they should have played it safe.  However they cannot be faulted for their efforts! As a result of this the scoreline was low after the first innings with just halves being scored by Ami, Elise, Alice, Emilie L and Hermione. The U9s fielding was also a bit risky in the first innings and although Ami stumped two players out at second, and Emily one out at first we allowed Cumnor to take the lead and score rounders that could have been stopped.

It was all to play for in the second innings as we were trailing by 1½ rounders and the U9s knew they had to relax and play their normal game, this they did if not picking up their game even more! They went into the second innings a lot more determined and motivated and this certainly paid off on the pitch! Most of the U9s managed to get on the score board and there was some fantastic rounders scored from Yelena, Elise and Holly with near rounders and halves scored by Emily W and Hermione, totaling Copthorne’s rounders to 10½!
Copthorne knew then they had to tighten up their fielding and stop Cumnor scoring, this they did and there was some super fielding from all, with all the girls working as a team resulting in two players getting stumped out.  There was also three fantastic catches from Ami, Yelena and Elise with two near catches from Hermione and Alice. As a result of our fantastic comeback and return to ‘normality’ they won the match 10½ rounders to 9! Well done to all of the U9s it was a fantastic match to come back on, lets hope we maintain this for the last week of matches next week!
