2nd VII Netball v Lancing – Lost 6-17

Copthorne 2nd’s played hosts to Lancing on yet another very cold Wednesday afternoon. I could not have asked for more from the girls as they were up against a well drilled and skilful side.  It’s also tough when your tallest girls on the team are still short in comparison to the opposition but Katie and her team stuck to their game plan and took the challenge to the visiting team.

In the first quarter both teams had a good share of possession and territory, the work rate was also exceptional. Copthorne did however give the ball away which allowed Lancing to take a slender lead.

The 2nd quarter was much the same as the first, Katie working hard as centre to transfer the ball out of defence onto the attackers. Abbey (GK) and Georgia (GA) were kept on their toes the entire match as Lancing’s shooters were on top form scoring from anywhere inside the D. Tori, Harriet, Eloise and Georgina could not have done a better job as wings as they worked their socks off trying to match the opposition’s speed and ball handling skills. When winning the ball they were all quick to link up with Katie to get the ball moving goal wards. If anyone on the team faced an uphill battle it was Chloe and Prisha. They had to cut their shooting time in half to be able to have a clear shoot at goal before Lancing’s GD could get into position as she gave nothing away.

The last two quarters was the most exciting as goals were coming thick and fast, mainly in Lancing’s favour but the home side were not going to lie down, the girls used a variety of passes to get the ball around and made some fantastic interceptions to disrupt the flow of the opposition. In the end it was inevitable that the visiting side where going to be victorious.

Thank you to all the parents for braving the elements to come and support the girls.  HP

Team: Katie, Prisha, Chloe, Georgia, Abbey, Eloise, Tori, Harriet, Georgina.
