U8 Rounders v Cumnor – Won 21-16½

What an amazing first match played by the U8s! Any nerves felt by the girls were buried beneath great excitement for their first ever match! Cumnor put us into bat first and through solid running we scored 7½ rounders. The Copthorne girls’ fielding was impressive two – quick stumpings and a superb catch by Freya meant we got most of the Cumnor players out. Although we played well in the first innings, strong batters on the Cumnor side meant we were down 7½-11½ at half time. However, the second inning was a whirlwind of great hits, superb sprinting, accurate passes, consistent catching, and ultimately fantastic communication between the girls in order to constantly stump their opposition out, keeping their rounders scored to a minimum. The girls all played exceptionally well, showing they have skill and determination which is sure to only flourish and strengthen through future matches. Particular mention to Freya for two outstanding catches, Michaela for consistent bowling (giving away few half-rounders) and also a great catch, and Harriet and Rebecca for some superb, strong hitting.                                                                              Well done girls, an excellent first match!
