U8 Rounders v Hurst – Won 13-6

The girls U8 team took on Hurstpierpoint this week at Rounders. This week they were playing against the U9B team, but they were up for the challenge. Amalia Finnegan was our captain this week and she got Copthorne off to a good start by winning the toss and choosing to field first.

Copthorne fielded fantastically in their first innings, throwing and catching accurately to each other and making it difficult for Hurst to score! We had great bowling from Yelena Finnegan who worked really well in a team with Elise Fry at Backstop and Amalia Finnegan at 2nd post. This innings saw a brilliant catch from Elise Fry with the girls managing to get 3 batters out. with Copthorne fielding so well Hurst only managed to score 2½ rounders.

In our batting innings the girls batted and ran well, taking some risks and cheering each other on. Full rounders were scored by Amalia and Emily Workman, whilst halves were scored by Yelena, Hermione Ashbee, Amber Buggins, Madeleine Liu and

Ellie Burchett. Copthorne scored a good 7½ rounders. this meant at half way Copthorne had the lead.

In the second innings the girls were once again strong in the field, working well as a team and making very few mistakes. There were some good hits from Hurst but our fielding was stronger. Hurst scored a further 3½ rounders. This meant by batting Copthorne would increase their lead.

The second batting innings saw full rounders from Yelena and Hermione  with halves from Amalia and Elise. This gave Copthorne a total of 13 rounders, with the final score being 13-6 to Copthorne.  Some fantastic play girls, both fielding and batting, Well done!  Thank you to Hurst for playing and all the supporter’s who came to watch, it was a great game.  HC
