U9 Rugby – Hurstpierpoint Tournament

Today we participated in a well organised Under 9 tournament. We were drawn in Pool D along with Duke of Kent, Holmewood House and Hurstpierpoint B. Our first macth against Holmewood was a very tough but sadly one sided affair! Holmewood House were much stronger and used the ball well. They ran out 25 – 5 winners. Man of the match was Matthew Eades. In the second match we played Hurstpierpoint B. We played much better and used the ball at every opportunity. We won this match by 25 – 0. Man of the match was Evan Penlington. Our final pool match was against Duke of Kent. We had to win this match to secure second spot and therefore a place in the Shield semi-finals. We passed, ran and tackled very well in this match and managed to score 5 very good tries. Final score 25 – 0. Man of the match was James Hayes. In the semi-final our opponents were St. Bedes. It proved to be a very even contest with both sides tackling and closing down the space well. We missed a couple of opportunities to open the play up but to St Bedes’ credit they defended very well. Sadly they crossed for a late first half try which proved to be the eventual decider. Final score was Copthorne 0 v 5 St Bedes. Man of the match was Benjamin Jennings and Matthew Cathcart. I would like to thank all the parents who came to support their boys. Thank you also to Mr Coulson. DM
