U9As win at Hurst in a Physical encounter

Copthorne    4    Hurstpierpoint    0

Try Scorers:  Elliot, Bradley (2), Zevon.

We went down to Hurst in a confident mood, having already beaten them in the first match of the season, and only losing once since, but they really gave us a good run for our money today with boys flying into the tackles from both sides.  Play was stopped on three occasions because players were hurt; nothing serious, but an indication of how bruising the game was.  Our rucking was pretty good in the first 8 minutes or so, with Zevon standing out in the rucks and winning us a lot of possession.  We defended excellently and got up quickly to make tackles and put Hurst under pressure, and this led to our first try where Elliot dived on the ball after we drove our opponents back over their own line.  We were only one try up when the whistle went for half time.

In the second half we started strongly.  Hurst had a tough side, with a lot of quick, elusive runners, but their handling let them down a little under pressure with good tackling from everyone, especially Elliot, Charlie and William.  Bradley made several excellent runs and was rewarded with two good tries.  Zevon had been outstanding due to his strong carrying of the ball throughout, and he also battered his way over the line to cap off a clear but hard earned win for us.  Harry also deserves a mention for some good running through several tackles and Kieron tackled as well as always.  Beau and Luke played well too, but never got the ball in enough space to be a real threat.  Well played to all the boys!
