This is the largest 7’s tournament in Sussex with 20 Prep schools competing. We kicked off at 10.30am against Cumnor House and it was not the best of starts as Cumnor seemed to score at will and we appeared to be still in the bus. Certainly we improved as the game progressed but were well beaten in the end. As only the top two out of each pool of 5 go through to the main competition it meant that we had it all to do in the remaining 3 matches.
Next up was Great Walstead and this proved to be a real ding dong of a game which we eventually won by 17 to 12. We then faced Warden Park school from Haywards Heath and after giving them our usual generous start we managed to win quite comfortably 27–14. Going in to the last game against Rydon Community College we had to win in order to go through to the last 8. Rydon scored first and for a long time it looked as if we were going out but two late tries saw us home 17–7 and so we progressed to the quarter finals with the really big boys. I have to say it was an impressive comeback after such a start. However we met a very good Highfield side in the next round and were well beaten but it is certainly the best performance at Windlesham for a number of years. It’s always good to see improvement and real effort from the boys so well done to one and all.
