Copthorne Girl Power- 1st place

“It was a weekend full of exiting chess -following Saturday’s successful London qualifications Ashdown House hosted the Sussex Junior Chess Girls Championships on Sunday 10th October. It was a lovely location for the Copthorne Girls team consisting of Lauren Pepper and Yelena, Amalia and Freya Finnegan. The girls all played well in the Under 11 tournament and Copthorne were awarded 1st place. They were given a medal each and a cup which will remain at school – a good memory of their achievement. Freya Finnegan also won top U10 girl.

Copthorne boys also turned up for training in large numbers – many new Sussex County players on the way I am sure!

Well Done Girls.”
