Fantastic day at the Chess Megafinal

On Saturday the 2nd May , despite the glorious weather, 13 children from Copthorne spent the entire day at Warden Park School in Cuckfield, battling to qualify for the gigafinal in Berkshire. 340 children aged between 6 -18 attended the event and there were 12 different age groups.
It was wonderful to see how Copthorne encouraged and supported each other throughout the whole competition; their focus and enthusiasm was truly remarkable. Players needed to win 4 out of 6 games in order to qualify and although only four children got through, most of the others had won at least 3 of their six games. Competition was keen, however all of the children were gracious in their wins and defeats.
Overall it was a successful day for Copthorne as for many children this was the first time they had attended a competition of this magnitude. I am sure that next year there will be more qualifiers for the third round.
Well done Copthorne!
