Year 1 Outing to St Leonard’s Church

| January 21, 2011 | Religious Studies, Year 1

What a treat Year 1 had on Thursday morning!  We set off early to visit Saint Leonard’s Church in Turners Hill.  We wanted to look at stained glass as part of our ‘colour’ topic and also to see the baptismal font. Mr Tregunno (Father Tim) welcomed us to the church with a prayer before we divided into three groups for some hands on exploration.  One group tried on priest’s vestments with Father Tony, while another tried their hands (and arms) at bell  ringing.  The third group had a close look at some of the images in the windows before joining with Father Tim in a dramatic telling of Saint Andrew the  fisherman.  For some, the highlight of the outing was the visit to Mrs Tregunno’s house for cornflake cakes and squash.   There was also an opportunity to meet Quinn, her lively boxer dog!
