Indoor Hockey v Great Walstead – U9A Lost 2-3 & U9B Won 3-2

Well what an exiting and eventful afternoon of hockey for the U9s, making a nice change from netball. This was the U9s first hockey match since the beginning of the term, so I must congratulate each and every girl today for their efforts, as they got stuck in and never gave up!

The U9As played first and got off to a fantastic start testing Great Walstead’s defence and making them work, until eventually a deserved goal was scored by Charlotte. The scoreline remained like this until half time although Copthorne were unlucky not to score more. Copthorne continued to have most of the possession into the second half of the match which resulted in a second goal being scored from Ella C, this was shortly followed however by a goal from Great Walstead. With a minute and a half left to play Copthorne held the lead and this looked like it was going to be a great win for the U9As, however the girls suddenly had a blip which resulted in Great Walstead sneakily putting in two goals, to win the match 3-2. All of the girls put in a great performance today in this team and a special mention must be said to Ella D and Neve who were super in defence! I do not think this scoreline really reflected the U9As performance today as they were the better side, and they were unfortunate not to take the win!

After the U9As strong performance the U9Bs were up and they finished the afternoon off nicely! Sheen and Katherine worked hard in defence to stop Great Walstead from scoring and Katie continuously attacked, resulting in two great goals by half time! Due to injuries, changes were made in this team at half time, but this did not stop the U9Bs and despite Great Walstead fighting back they held strong and won the match 3-2, with the third goal coming from Katherine M, my goal of the match today!

Well done to the U9Bs and to all of the U9s today, I see some promise for the future!
Thank you to all of the parents that came to watch today, it was lovely to see so many of you! T.C
