Colts A Rugby v Pennthorpe

Although we lost by five tries, this was the best we had played as a team all season, and for the first time the grit, determination and competitiveness of the boys began to show. Against a very good and well organised Pennthorpe team (many of whom play club rugby out of school) we tackled and defended almost heroically at times and were very unlucky not to score in the dying seconds when the portly referee got in the way of Ben Kinnear as he was driving hard towards the line.

The scrums and lineouts were good; the tackling was better although still a little high; our passing was more accurate; we tried to go forward with the ball; we were far more committed, competitive and determined so the coach was very happy despite the loss.  Had we played like this last week we may have come away from Lancing with a win!

Pennthorpe will be one of the better teams we will play this season, so the result was very pleasing. We

have another trip away next week to Great Walstead where I shall expect even more in terms of commitment and continued improvements. Well played – 2 effort stars to the whole team!
