Fat Sam’s Grand Slam – liveliest joint in town!
‘This is Twickenham, and England expects!’ such was the rallying cry from me, the director, moments before the first performance of our epic production, Bugsy Malone. And boy, did they deliver; professional lighting, exciting sound effects, authentic props, stunning costumes, impressive staging, theatrical drapes – the list goes on, and all these things combined to support the breath-taking talent of the children. England expected and the team delivered.
The audience of gangsters and their molls took to their feet, applauded and hollered for more when the final song was sung; the stage was a sea of smiling, splurged faces
I’ve done many of these productions, some small scale, some very large scale, but never have I worked with such a talented team who pulled together so well and shared in the same vision. I had intended from the outset to go beyond the traditional ‘school play’ and create a ‘good night out’ for parents. This we did.
As a teacher, one of my favourite occupations is surprising parents at how good their children really are. I think we achieved this in Bugsy and my thanks extend to all those involved in the project.
Here’s to Grease in 2011…
