Year 4 Forest School & History

16th November 2020

This week in Forest School with Mr Lloyd Year 4 created their own poppy masterpieces, using natural materials like just like Andy Goldsworthy! In History, the children learnt that the floors of Roman buildings were often richly decorated with mosaics. They learnt that mosaics were made from tiny coloured stones which they called tesserae. They…

Black History Month, Art & Ancient Egypt

16th November 2020

The Year 3 children showed great teamwork and presented some wonderful Black History Month projects and the teachers were very impressed. In Art, the children starting work on their tonal abstract landscape. The children have also been looking at hieroglyphics as part of their Ancient Egypt topic. We have made our own cartouches!

Thank you!

16th November 2020

Thank you for all of your Love in a Box donations! And a huge thank you to Arun and Xander’s grandad who donated £50 to the poppy appeal!

Remembrance Day

16th November 2020

Well done to Alex Wu who played “The Last Post and Reveille” from the roof of the Chapel Tower. The Chapel Tower was extended in 1919, and the memorial clock and bells were installed as a lasting war memorial to commemorate those members of the Copthorne School community who lost their lives in the First…

New Bubbles

9th November 2020

Our new smaller bubbles seem to be working well; thank you for your support and kind messages regarding the additional steps we have taken to try to keep everyone safe. The children constantly amaze us with their resilience and ability to adapt. Although the additional duties and roles are considerable for all the staff –…

Accelerated Reader

9th November 2020

There has been some consternation regarding this new reading system, which we have just started in the Pre-Prep although it has been running for a year in the Prep. With AR, all the evidence points to much improved reading and comprehension levels, not just in our school but nationwide. Although some children are finding the…

New member of staff

9th November 2020

Welcome Lauren Mackey who is our new Head of Learning Support (SENCO)!

Sumdog Competition

6th November 2020

Over half term our pupils were set a Sumdog competition. The person who answered the most questions correctly achieved the highest score. We were impressed with how hard the children worked, how much fun they had and how their maths skills are improving as a result of their efforts.

Children in Need!

6th November 2020

Friday 13th November is Children in Need day this year. Please can the children come to school wearing as many spots as possible, and bring in a donation for this worthwhile charity? We look forward to have a day full of spotty activities!
