Kings and Queens for the day in Year 1

Year 1 have thoroughly embraced our global topic this term, diving into the fascinating world of Kings and Queens! From dressing up as royalty and learning about significant British monarchs in history to exploring the grandeur of castles, the children have had an exciting and educational journey.

A few highlights include hosting their very own royal banquet, crafting knights with movable limbs, and enjoying a memorable visit to Hever Castle. We are incredibly proud of their mature behaviour during these enriching experiences, as well as how much they have learned along the way.

Learning about the 3Rs

This week, Year 2 have been busy exploring our global topic: How We Look After Mother Earth, with a special focus on sustainability. We’ve been learning all about the 3 Rs -Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – and even had a go at making our own recycled paper, which was both fun and messy! To help support local wildlife, we’ve also planted wildflower seeds and are now carefully looking after them as we wait for them to grow. With the sun shining, it’s been the perfect week to enjoy learning outdoors and connect with nature!

Ice Creams at the Seaside for Nursery

This week in Bumblebees preschool class, we have been focusing on the theme of summer. Our featured book is ‘Look What I Found at the Seaside’. The children have been sharing their ideas about activities and items they enjoy at the seaside, with ice cream and lollies being a popular choice. Additionally, we created collage lollies in our creative area.

Meanwhile our younger Butterflies and Caterpillars children had lots of fun getting creative with a sensory activity! Using shaving foam for the ice cream and cornflakes for the cone, they worked together to make a giant ice cream cone. They explored textures, used their fine motor skills, and showed great teamwork. Well done!

Time with our Dads!

We were utterly delighted to be joined not once, but twice this week by a very special group—our incredibly busy but much-loved dads (and a few mums and family members too!). Thank you to everyone who took the time to join us for breakfast throughout the week. These mornings provided a wonderful chance to pause, connect, and share some quality time together. They also gave our wider school community a chance to catch up and enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed setting. In a world that often moves at lightning speed, moments like these—where we simply be with the important people in our lives—are truly priceless.

Pre-school Practise Sounds

This week, Bumblebees, our Pre-school class, focused on the letter ‘l,’ practising its correct pronunciation. We engaged in the sound bag activity, which included various objects that start with ‘l’ and also dedicated time to practicing our handwriting skills.

The children from our Butterfly and Caterpillar nursery classes demonstrated wonderful enthusiasm and teamwork during today’s ball skills session. It was a joy to see their growing confidence, coordination, and love for PE.

Reception Boat Designers

In Reception, we had a great time investigating floating and sinking by designing and testing boats made from playdough. First, we tested different shapes, balls and flat pieces and discovered that they sank to the bottom. Then we experimented by moulding the playdough into curved, bowl-like shapes. To our excitement, these floated on the water! The children made predictions, observed carefully and discussed why some shapes floated while others didn’t.

Pre-school Bumblebees Head to the Seaside

This week in Bumblebees class, we have been exploring the seaside. The children have enjoyed engaging with the seaside tuff tray and learning about the various animals that live in the ocean and coastal areas.

Changing Shapes in Reception

This week, Reception explored tangrams and how shapes can become all sorts of things. Using our imagination and technology, we created a short movie about a square who dreamed of becoming something new. A fun and creative adventure in shape and storytelling!

How we look after Mother Earth

Our Year 2s amazed us with their projects about “How we look after Mother Earth.”

The children were challenged to think of a way they could help the planet and execute their idea in a way that would inspire others. We had many planting seeds, flowers and vegetables. The bug hotels and bee feeders were so colourfully and creatively presented. Vadaanya had us in awe of the bioplastic she made using seaweed! Over the course of the time in Year 2, we have seen the children grow in confidence and presentation skills. Our global focus this week has been to look at the 3Rs of sustainability – reuse, recycle and reduce. Please join us on the journey to help Mother Earth!
