Our incredible chess players

Did you know that Copthorne Prep holds all five of the top school primary cup trophies (U7, U8, U9, U11 & U11 girls) and we currently have four national champions?

Our pupils continued their dedication and hard work over the weekend. The Sussex U9 team played in the EPSCA 2022 national final in Oxford. Five of the team were from Copthorne Prep. The children had a brilliant day and finished fifth out of the 13 counties that managed to progress from the two qualification rounds to the final itself. An outstanding result considering most were in year 3 and therefore U8’s. Aidan B, team captain, played on one of the toughest boards and is one of the top players in the country along with other outstanding players like Samuel S, Hongqi Z, Kai S and rising star Kaelen P.
