Sussex Schools Cross Country  Championship

26th February 2016

This is the biggest cross country event of the school year and also one that attracts the best of the best.

We decided to take Year 7 and 8 boys’ teams and a Year 8 girls’ team, each consisting of 4 runners.

Any runner who finished their race in the top 20 would automatically be selected to run for Sussex at the Inter-counties in Basingstoke. Daniel W was the pick of our runners, claiming a 12th place finish to earn his second successive Sussex vest.

Our team of the day was the Year 8 girls’ with Emily, Alice, Hermione and Catherine all producing the goods to record a score of 255 points.

The Year 7 boys’ scored 429 and the Year 8 boys’ scored 310. The lowest score always wins in a cross country event.

Ben E, Rohan and Nick were all making their Copthorne cross country team debuts and were supported well by Beau, Bradley, Kieron, Oliver and Daniel in the boys’ teams.

Catherine is not a regular on the cross country circuit so she should be proud of her efforts in being a part of the winning team in our internal competition.

Well done to all 12 runners and good luck to Daniel in the next stage of the competition; the whole of Copthorne will be cheering you on from a distance!
