Year 8 Science

9th September 2020

The Year 8’s had an exciting Science lesson today experimenting on plants for their current topic: photosynthesis. Their task was to check if the plants contained starch, a substance produced during the process. They did this by boiling the plants in alcohol, breaking down the chlorophyll and covering them with iodine. Iodine is an indicator that turned the plants black in the presence of starch! It was exciting to watch the plants change in colour!

We are expanding to GCSE!

Parents have told us they need a quality senior school alternative, so from September 2021, pupils already at Copthorne or joining in Year 7 will be able to stay with us to Year 11. Our first GCSE exams will take place in 2026.

Join us at our next Virtual Open Morning or read about our expansion to find out more.
