Next week includes World Book Day on Thursday when we are looking forward to seeing all the children dressed up as a character from their favourite book (no superheroes please!) Please make sure your child brings the book to school, so that they can design a new cover. We will also be welcoming author Tony Bradman to school on Thursday; a separate letter has come home regarding buying one of his books.

Parents & children are also most welcome to cosy up on our special reading sofa near the front doors to the Pre-Prep, morning or afternoon, to share a book. If the reading sofa is occupied, please feel free to share a book in your child’s classroom … there are lots to choose from in the class book boxes! There will also be a competition to name the 25 books represented by different characters on our giant Book Week poster; thank you to Mr Frith for our huge wonderful posters!

In addition, each year group will be adding various bookish activities to their week including a comic strip with action figures in Year 2, enjoying story dens and bookmaking in Year 1 and activities based around Aliens love Underpants, The Tiger who came to tea and Oi Frog in Reception!

I have also just been on some Read Write Inc. refresher training, and as part of that am encouraging all parents to look at the ruthmiskin.com website, where you will find lots of information regarding helping your child to read and modelling good practice. Do please ask if you have any questions!

Well done to all the children for reading more to their parents, and to the parents who are listening more and annotating the reading record books. As Dr Seuss said: “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Here’s to a great week of books and reading!  Susie Swadling
