Making Fantastic Clay Birds!

29th September 2018

This week has been a busy week in Reception. We continued our topic of Jungles and looked at things that ‘flap and fly’. The teachers were amazed at the children’s knowledge of birds and learned a fact or two themselves!

The children made fantastic clay birds in art! The ambition, determination and craftsmanship of the children was astounding. They spent time thinking about and mixing colours to achieve the desired effect and some spent ages getting it ‘just right’! We had parrots, eagles, flamingos, owls and many more, so do keep an eye out for them.

We also worked hard in Maths identifying numbers and making sure that we understood and were able to quantify and order them. The children especially enjoyed the number hunt to match their Numicon shapes.

We also continue our sound journey in Read Write Inc. focusing on the rhymes as well as the formation.  When helping with homework, please can parents encourage their children to hold their pencils correctly (two frogs on a log) and to start in the correct place on the page?
