1st Girls Hockey – Worth Tournament

5th October 2017

The 1st had the chance to participate in a full day of hockey on Astro in Worth’s tournament. The girls participated in a round robin competition which provided an excellent competitive opportunity for them to build on their confidence and put into practice some of the skills and tactics they had been working on in games sessions.

Matches were 10 minutes one way with 7 schools in each pool giving the girls a good amount of playing time. Results from the day: We lost 0-2 to Cumnor who had the majority of attacking play, a tough opposition. The girls regrouped and took on board some pointers and game out with a 1-0 win against Ashdown House with the goal coming from Grace. The girls narrowly lost their 3rd match 0-1 to Handcross, they had some impressive play but could not convert and find the back of the net. Focus and aggressiveness started to slip in their 4th game as the girls backed off from tackles which lead to a 0-3 against Burgess Hill. With 2 games left, they remained positive and keen to put in the work but fitness started to take its toll and the girls struggled to retain possession or counterattack leading to another two 0-1 defeats to Brighton College Prep and Roedean.

Well done to all the girls for working together and supporting each other. Improvement is still needed in terms of passing speed, marking and positional play.

A special mentioned needs to go out to Isabella (GK), my player of the tournament as she was brilliant, pulling off some spectacular saves, covering her goals and post well, making the opposition forwards frustrated.

Team: Isabella, Emily, Lila, Leah, Jemima, Abigail, Grace, Isabel and Ruby.
