The first team got a well-deserved victory on Wednesday with a solid performance against St Christopher’s. The game started fairly evenly with neither side really getting on top and few chances created. Gradually as the half wore on, Copthorne started to get on top and put pressure on the St Christopher’s defence. After a few near misses, Jemima dribbled down the right hand side and shot the ball across the goalkeeper and into the corner to give Copthorne the lead. This was then followed by a similar goal a few minutes later to double Copthorne’s lead. As the half finished, excellent work from Khushi down the left hand side saw her break into the D and cause all sorts of confusion. Somehow the ball was bundled into the back of the goal, perhaps off a St Christopher’s stick or Khushi’s stick but it gave Copthorne a 3-0 lead at half time.
The talk at half time from Mr Clark was to try and keep a clean sheet for the rest of the game. This almost didn’t happen with only a few seconds of the second half gone as St Christopher’s came out with more purpose and hit the post. A lucky escape. Copthorne struggled to gain their momentum as they had in the first half and it took some good defending from Josie, Sheen and Abi to keep the score at 3-0. Jemima made some excellent saves as well. Towards the end of the half the St Christopher’s keeper was called onto action as Katie and Rosie both had opportunities. The final whistle ended the game with a 3-0 victory and a clean sheet secured.
Well done to the girls on a good victory. Something to build on in the coming weeks.
