1st Hockey v Great Walstead – Lost 5-7

The 1sts put in a good team performance for the first game of the season against a strong Great Walstead side. After a good warm up the match started fairly evenly with both teams having chances.

Eventually the Walstead pressure began to cause a few mistakes and they took the lead, scoring twice in quick succession. To the girls credit they came back strongly. Good passing from Elise, Amber and Emily caused the Walstead defence problems and 2 goals brought the scores level again. Walstead then scored a breakaway goal but just before half time Amber scored another equaliser after some good work from Alice.

After a productive half time team talk the girls went back out with purpose. Some well worked short corners gave Copthorne a lead. This, along with good defensive work from Sheen and Josie kept Walstead out for long periods. Jemima in goal also made some good saves to keep Copthorne in the game.

Once again however the Walstead pressure showed and they scored 4 goals without reply. The girls ran out of time chasing the game but they should be pleased with their efforts.

A few things to work on for next week but a positive start. CC

Team: Amber B (c), Elise F, Josie M, Sheen D, Rosie H, Alice R, Emily W, Jemima C (gk)
