This was not the result that we had hoped for to end the season, however if we look back on the season as a whole we can be proud of what we have achieved with such a young squad. Victories over Shoreham College, Christ’s Hospital and Pennthorpe; a well fought out draw away to Ardingly and regaining the Sale Cup from Brambletye being the main highlights.
Two deflected goals and a calm finish gave Cumnor a commanding 3 goal lead going into half time and I can honestly say that we had not moved out of first gear for 25 minutes. A change of tact during the interval allowed the boys to work out what was going wrong from themselves and what was needed to put it right. The change around was massive and we attacked the second half with greater passion and instilled some pride. Grit and determination go a long way in football and even when you are having an off day with the ball at feet this can make up for it. Although we conceded a further goal in the second half I was pleased with the improved effort shown, which made up for a poor first half.
It has been a pleasure to have coached this group of boys this season and there is certainly a lot of potential there which can hopefully be reached next season. MA
